Te Komititanga square - Commercial Bay entrance

The Te Komititanga entrance to Commercial Bay shopping centre has a visual feel that makes me utter "into the belly of the beast" each time I climb the flight of stairs or mount the escalator.

There is the appearance of a cavernous mouth with fearsome rows of sharp teeth.

As shopping centres go, the upscale Commercial Bay is rather nice. The shops are varied and interesting; the food court, with its excellent range of ethnic fare, is superb; and Commercial Bay is home to one of my favourite and most refined restaurants.

While others elect to window shop with wallets at the ready, I am content to sample the visual wares of Auckland with camera in hand.

On this day, the gravitas of the Te Komititanga entrance attracted my full attention.
