Pitt Street Buildings
A venerable building dating back to 1904, the Pitt Street Buildings anchor the corner of Pitt Street and Karangahape (aka K) Road.
The location was first home to Tattersfield & Company, a New Zealand mattress & bedding business. In 1935 Leo O'Malley The Menswear Store established itself as the flagship retailer of the K Road edifice, and remained a vibrant business for 84 years, during which time K Road was the high-end fashion centre of Auckland’s central business district. ASColour, a clothing basics store, has replaced Leo O’Malley as the contemporary anchor enterprise.
The photograph below from the early 20th Century depicts the buildings in the time period when Tattersfield & Co. commanded the expanse along the prestigious street corner.
