hang ten - K Road
I didn’t see it; my wife did.
Oh I noticed that the bench was very cool, that I needed to capture it with camera. The bench resides on K Road, but I know that my adopted city has hip street art everywhere, so this particular piece of functional art work could have been placed anywhere in my city.
But this funky bench was made for K Road. It speaks to the K Road attitude, the vibe you get from a street that projects its quirky persona with brash assertion, with punctuated panache, but reserves the right to be decidedly indifferent.
What didn’t I notice? That the bench might, and probably is, a surf board caught in a big wave, a wave that reminds all who stop to admire, or just sit, that New Zealand is a surfer’s destination, a place to hang ten.
It is also a place to enjoy fantastic street art.
