Kingsland - images from its commercial district
14 October will mark the end of New Zealand’s current general election season with political candidates standing for election to New Zealand’s parliament.
I have been helping with the campaigns of several candidates in the Central Auckland region who are standing for office under the banner of The Opportunities Party or simply TOP, a centrist but staunchly progressive political party.
One TOP candidate, Ciara Swords, participated in a town hall debate hosted by the Mt Albert Residents Association, and I attended the evening event in support of her candidacy.
It being a crisp late winter afternoon, I decided to walk the 8km from my apartment in Wynyard Quarter to the debate venue. Although punctuated by numerous photographic moments, the walk’s highlight was the time I spent in the Auckland suburb of Kingsland and specifically in its commercial district.
Perhaps best known as the home of New Zealand’s largest sports stadium, Eden Park, the suburb is a lovely mix of old and new . . . or more accurately stated: old and renovated. The distinction is important because much of what is ‘new’ within the commercial district is, in fact, tastefully refurbished properties.
This blog entry presents four of my favourite examples of the old and recently renovated.
A ‘hat’s office’ to Kingsland for its dedication to historical preservation.
