NZ Visual Diary - entry 271
CityLink bus driver
The CityLink route of Auckland Transport’s bus service circumnavigates the city centre from Wynyard Quarter, my home precinct, to K Road and back. The northern terminus of the service is across the street from my apartment building, so I regularly use the CityLink bus, especially when my wife and I go to concerts at Auckland Town Hall, the city’s premiere classical music venue. Both the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra and Bach Musica call Town Hall home.
This entry’s photograph evolved by chance. I was sitting at a bus stop on the west side of Queen Street waiting for the CityLink bus to shuttle me home. As I waited, I held my camera’s view finder to my eye to review the photographs I had captured on a city centre walk earlier in the day. A CityLink bus heading south on Queen Street toward K Road stopped on the opposite side of Queen Street directly across from me.
Thinking that I was holding my camera to my eye to take a picture of him, the bus driver flashed a winning smile, truly an obliging fellow, and waited for me to indicate that I had secured the shot.
And so I did. Thumbs-up all around.
