Havana Bar & Restaurant - Wellington
As it should be, the Havana Bar & Restaurant is located near Cuba Street, one of the coolest streets in Wellington. I regret that, on our recent sojourn in Welly, Randolph and I did not spend an evening at Havana. A friend took us elsewhere, but I did stop to capture this photograph before we made our way at night to another dining venue.
The establishment’s website waxes proudly about the bar’s history and the weathered set of buildings that house the culinary and musical enterprise. The narrative reads in part:
Havana Bar, nestled in two charming 19th-century cottages on Wigan Street, holds a rich history dating back to Wellington's old Chinatown. Originally a speakeasy idea during espresso breaks at Havana Coffee Works in 1991, it officially opened in 2003, embracing all things Cuban - from history and music to rum, cigars, and coffee.
Since then, Havana Bar has been a hub for local and international musicians, creating a vibrant atmosphere. In 2010, the cottage transformed into an award-winning tapas restaurant after Havana Coffee Works moved to Tory St. Today, Havana Bar offers a unique urban oasis, serving the highest quality products sourced from the 'Best little Capital in the World' and beyond. 1
Given another opportunity, and we do love going to Welly, we will keep a night at Havana Bar high on our list of things to do in New Zealand’s capital city.

I have a horror that because of some spasm of bureaucracy Cuba St might be declared unsafe, not up to code for earthquakes, and they tear it down and replace it with something safe and soulless. Or some rich corporation buys it out to milk dollars from it but makes it Tijuana instead of Cuba. Another frameable image Rich. Love it.
