silo park machinery
I have twin fascinations for oversized monumental architecture -- enormous railroad stations or massive public libraries, post offices and museums -- and out-of-scale machinery, the latter obsession I suspect is attributable to having watched Fritz Lang’s classic film Metropolis and Alex Proyas’ 1998 masterpiece Dark City once too often.
This confession, for many viewers of my photography blog, may yet be insufficient to explain why I captured an image of the machinery attached to one of the silos in the Silo Park area of Wynyard Quarter.
That the impossibly large handle and connecting pipes have been painted electric blue may also be an excuse I will use, if further explanation is warranted. The splash of fluorescent green that bathes one side of the silo body is equally an attraction.
