As New Zealand moves into the summer season, the sun’s intensity grows relentlessly. It bears down on souls who by habit or necessity must be outdoors. So, it’s commonplace to see street dwellers embrace umbrellas, irrespective of the weather’s inclemency, to protect themselves from a gaze as fierce as a school librarian who knows that a fidgety student warrants her full attention.

Few required accessories are as lovely as this woman’s all-purpose protection.
