tidal pool steps - Wynyard Quarter
On a day unaware that New Zealand has slipped into early autumn, sun worshippers have congregated about the tidal pool steps and Karanga Plaza beyond to enjoy the amenities of a favourite public space within Wynyard Quarter.
I never traverse the Wynyard Crossing bridge, which runs just north the tidal pool steps and connects the North Wharf of my precinct with Te Wero Island to the east, without looking back over my shoulder to the tidal pool steps. On most days of the year, but most noticeably on days favoured with a warm sun, the steps host a motley crew of bathers, artists and folks who just wish to sit and enjoy the vantage point.
With an afternoon sun in the western sky, prominent shadows form on the east-facing edges of the tidal steps. Those shadows create dramatic contrast lines in today’s photograph.
