grunge windows along Wolfe Street
With this post, I introduce a periodic series of photographs on the theme of urban grunge.
From my earliest days as an architectural photographer, some 18 years ago when I bought my first DSLR camera (the Canon 5D), I have had quiet fondness for urban grunge. In those halcyon days of visual adventures in Lexington (Kentucky), I sought out not only architecture I thought grand, elegant and refined, but also the beatific decayed.

My early passion for urban grunge took me often to Lexington’s Distillery District, where I knew I could find ‘artful’ decay like Door 4 above. In Auckland, I have found pockets of architectural distress that, to my odd eye, render nicely as niche fine art photographs.
We shall see what comes of this series. I welcome your encouragement or caustic comment.
