line and geometric form
Regular viewers of my Substack blog will know that architectural photography is a mainstay of my visual work. This entry illustrates my predilection for photographing the urban built environment.
I was on my way to Wellsley Street in Auckland’s central city to view the progress of a CityRailLink station under construction on Wellsley Street just west of its intersection with Queen Street. Known by the gifted Māori name of Te Waihorotiu, the station is predicted to be the busy train station in all of New Zealand.
But before I arrived at the station, and while looking south from my Wellsley Street vantage point, I caught sight of the rear building facade of SkyWorld, the entertainment centre fronted on Queen Street.
I found very appealing the interplay of staid geometric form in the foreground with the striking movement of asymmetrical and oppositional planes in the background.
I added grain to accent form and light and enhance the photograph’s depth.
It was for me a playful scene.
