NZ Visual Diary - entry 385 redux
hallway - looking onto O'Connell Street
Being a self-taught photographer has its advantages. One gets to by-pass the often savage critiques of periodic art school reviews. That said, I have family and friends who are accomplished visual types and they lean-in on occasion to offer up a taste of the art school gauntlet.
I am very grateful to one of those friends whose sharp observation is delivered with utmost care and genuine concern that I improve as a visual artist. He rightfully identified my propensity for excessive post-processing - in the instance of entry 385, of areas of incomprehensible over- and under-sharpening.
Whether I have successfully absorbed his sage advice and produced a better image here than the original turns on my ability to learn and improve and not on his ability to instruct. I am always grateful, and yes humbled, by the generous feedback from those who follow my Substack blog.
