NZ Visual Diary - entry 405
269 - Parnell
Named for its street number - 269 - along Parnell Road in Auckland’s oldest suburb, 269 is a food complex with architectural and culinary nods to European, Mediterranean and Latin American motifs.
At first blush, I was very taken by the architectural appointments, especially the Mediterranean feel of the complex’s western wall, as illustrated in today’s photograph.
At its front entrance, 269 is enclosed by a serpentine wall and seating area with an outdoor bar just beyond.
The food shops are handsomely ensconced within the ground floor of the western wall. A capacious seating area under a covered pavilion sits at the rear of the complex.
My wife and our grandson accompanied me for our first visit to the food complex. We ordered food from Aula’s Kitchen, an elegant shop that serves fresh pita bread sandwiches with an assortment of delicious fillings. I had spiced falafel, my wife ordered lamb and our grandson inhaled a chicken schnitzel pita bread sandwich.
The combination of charming ambiance in perfect mid-Spring weather, scrumptious food and equally wonderful lunch companions made the lunch date quite memorable.
