NZ visual diary - entry 41
colourful K Road shops
Karangahape Road (or for locals 'K Road') is the epicentre of the university student corridor in Auckland. It is a crazy mix of culinary, cultural and entertainment venues running the style gamut of grunge to haute chic. The architecture of the street is equally eclectic and glorious.
Back in the day, when I took long(ish) bike treks from my former home in the Auckland suburb of One Tree Hill, a favourite route took me across the length of K Road from the Grafton Bridge to New North Road. The road is a visual treat and deserves more of my photographic attention.
And, speaking about all things cycling, the Auckland City Council also deserves a big shout-out and robust thanks for the completion of the prized bike lane it built across the length of K Road (on both sides of the road).
On that point of interest, look closely at my photograph and you will notice the stone berm at the edge of the sidewalk. That berm is the protective barrier for a lovely bike lane that sits between the street traffic and pedestrian sidewalk. It is a model bike lane.
