From a compositional perspective, I love this photograph for its echo of visual triangles - in the first instance, the triangle formed by the pair of dog leashes and dog bodies at its base; and in the second instance: the bodily outlines of the father and son, completed by the lower-frame edge of the cart behind the father.
Of course, the cascade of tenderness — from father to son, from son to dog — is the visual story.
