NZ Visual Diary - entry 234
study in 3 windows
Across from the entrance to the Auckland Central City Library sits a large abandoned building within which is found today’s image, a portion of the rear-facing facade.
There are ample elements of the larger rear facade, now a study in neglect and disrepair, that indicate the face was once quite beautiful.
As is the case with the previous entry that featured a Ponsonby Road building with equally striking intimations of beauty squandered, today’s image - positioned directly across from the main entrance to the Auckland Central City Library - should be an entry in an imagined architectural competition as part of a larger, and admittedly much more ambitious, effort to redevelop the block in question at the northeast corner of Queen and Wellesley Streets.
